One of the most magical times of the year is approaching in Pensacola. No, we aren't talking about the holiday season, but the Mardi Gras season. Fat Tuesday, otherwise known as "Mardi Gras," is the time of year for the krewes to come together, pull out the sparkly and bright costumes, and prepare to indulge in delicious foods and cocktails.

While Mardi Gras is widely celebrated in the United States, the New Orleans, Louisiana, and Mobile, Alabama areas are commonly known for all the current traditions like masquerade balls, parades, floats, and throws that originated there. This French-Catholic tradition has evolved into a massive, multi-week celebration across different cultures.

The Mardi Gras madness does not stay confined to south Alabama and Louisiana, but the Florida Panhandle partakes in several Mardi Gras festivities. From children's krewes to adult bar crawls, masked balls, grand parades, and even Mardi Gras bingo, it's safe to say that Pensacola enjoys this holiday.

If you have yet to attend a Mardi Gras event in the Pensacola area, now is the time to plan a trip! The weather in late February is usually comfortable on the beach, making it the perfect place to visit. Keep reading for more information on Mardi Gras events, festivities, and places to stay.
